OPEN 13, International
Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations
Venice Lido, 01 September - 03 October 2010
O. Pinarello will be at
OPEN 13, the International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations at
Venice Lido. The event will be held from 1 September to 3 October, at
the same time as the 67th Venice International Film Festival and the
Venice Architecture Biennale 2010. Conceived and curated by Paolo De
Grandis, co-curated by Carlotta Scarpa, organised by Arte Communications
(that is also in co-operation with Venice Biennale), in collaboration
with the Department of Culture of the Venice City Council, the
exhibition is held under the patronage of the Ministry for Foreign
Affairs, the Veneto Region, the Province of Venice and Venice City
Council. This exhibition has also the appointment and the medal of the
Italian Republic President. For OPEN, the shown work of Ottavio
Pinarello is a “remake” of his paintings "Blindfolded Profile" (cm 80 x
80) - "Gagged Profile" (cm 80 x 80) - 2006 - mixed media on canvas (still
in possession of the author), from the cycle "blindfolded and gagged"
that analyzes the problem of communication among two entities or among
different faces of a same entity. Pinarello, with the symbolic use of
the stylized profile of the human face inserted in scenes between
informal and metaphysician, moves himself through the way of conceptual
investigation. "In base to his own state of mind and intuition, Ottavio
Pinarello instinctively feels what situations will be represented in
completely pictorial way or through a mixing of painting and photo. In
this second case the photographic image that will compose the work is
realized by the artist to answer to one particular vision and feeling,
the shot is intended therefore from Pinarello as representation of what
we can’t see, but we can only feel" (G. Le Noci, in "Arte
Contemporanea", Nov-Dec 2009). These artworks, still in possession of the
author, were shown more times in Italy and abroad, in particular way at
ArtePadova 2006, D’Ars Foundation Milano 2006, Atelier Gustave
Montparnasse Paris 2006-07, ArteFiera Bologna 2007 (D’Ars Foudation –
MIM), Spazio RIV.56 Padova 2007, Studio Barozzi Milano 2008 (Paolo
Barozzi personal assistant and friend of Peggy Guggenheim), Galleria
Nuovo Spazio Udine, Venezia-Meste 2009. Also was published on the review
“Arte Contemporanea”, number of November-December 2007.
But now these
works are particularly meaningful because the image of the "Gagged
Profile" has recently been used in Italy, without the
authorization of
the author and without the due declaration of paternity, as symbol of
the protests "No Gag" against the Decree of the italian Government about
the telephone interceptions, in consequence of this the
unduly exploited
image of the art work has been communicated for weeks on all the
national most important means of information. Paradoxically the gag has
been put to the author of the "Gagged Profile", sometimes the art is
prophetic. But if others have wanted to violate and to exploit this
work, conceptually the artist now takes back of it "possession", turning
his 2006 diptych into this installation, through an operation of
enlargement, fragmentation and recomposition. The installation is placed
near Des Bains Hotel, just in the little square in front of the
famous "Blue Moon".
